First Experience with a Trailer

f0146342_7272726.jpg

The dinner of the second night at camping was Mexican Tacos. The breakfast of the next day was pancakes. Then, it was already time to pack up to go home.

By the way, my brother and sister-in-laws have a camping trailer. This was the first time we had gone camping with them and for the first time we saw them use the trailer. It was a foldup style, if I could call it. First it looked like a plain flat box. Then, it expanded taller in no time. The bed spaces came out from front and back. Even a canopy pulled out from the side. Inside were a sofa, a kitchen sink, and a table that also could turn into a bed. It was just like a small hotel room. You can use hot water as well as electricity.

My dragon boy, as the rest of us had expected, said, “I want to sleep in here!!” He spent the nights snugly with Maggie. Casey, my dancing princess and I, on the other hand, had trouble sleeping in the primitive tent which was on a sloping ground. We kept sliding out toward our heads whole night.

After we checked out the camping ground, we had a picnic; hot dogs again. Then we said goodbye to the Stockton folks and were on our way home. Two-night trip is very short but for me it may be a good length of camping with princess. Of course, princess, an outdoor lover, won’t mind no matter how long we are out for camping (^_^;).

Is This What You Call the End of the Earth?

f0146342_1627694.jpg

We went on a two-night camping trip. Our destination this time was Point Reyes National Seashore, located north of San Francisco. About two-hour drive took us there. We met the Stockton clan at the camping ground near Point Reyes; Grandma, my brother and sister-in-laws, and their dog Maggie. By the time we set up the tent and settled down, it was already evening. We had curry rice and chow mein for dinner and spent a relaxed night. Next day, after a french toast breakfast, we were off to Point Reyes Lighthouse.

As seen in the map, the lighthouse is located at the tip of the land protruded into the Pacific Ocean. It truly fits the image of the end of the earth. Actually, we came here at the end of last year. At that time, however, capped by a dense fog, we could hardly see anything. This time the view was very clear; blue ocean and waves crashing against the cliff. It was so windy and freezing cold but I had the splendid view burned into my brain.

There was something about this lighthouse that made it different from other ordinary ones. Stairs... There were more than 300 stairs to go down to the lighthouse. The means coming back up was, yes, devilish. I first wondered why there were a few rest areas along the stairs. When I started climbing up the stairs, it made complete sense. Also, every ten stairs, numbers were marked to tell you how many stairs you had come. Should I be grateful for that? I don’t know. Only dragon went down and up twice. He did it at our previous visit, too. Of course it didn’t slow him down at all.

Somehow, I am always attracted to a seascape with a lighthouse. When I was a child, I used to watch out the window of the house to see a lighthouse. I went there very often just to play. I especially like the atmosphere of American lighthouses. But thinking carefully, lighthouses are supposed to stand in a place with harsh weather conditions. Do I want to live there? It’s a hard question to answer (^_^;). Maybe just enjoying drawings, paintings or photos would be enough for me. By the way, I learned that this Point Reyes Lighthouse does not shine the light anymore. Only the horn does its job now.
