New Doors! But...

Doors. They had long been a source of our headache. Especially our front door was so rigid that we had to throw our whole body against it or kick it open. The screen door attached to it was nothing but an antique. The screen had long been ripped and flapped every time we opened it, making the entire house look like a haunted house.

Meanwhile, the door in the kitchen to the backyard caught our attention. The lock didn’t work anymore. Now I can confess this but I should say we were lucky that nobody broke in. I guess it was a blind spot for thieves. Last year, we had to spend a lot of time and money for other urgent home improvement projects, putting the door issue aside. But we could not leave them neglected anymore and finally decided to take action and ordered two doors at once.

After waiting a little over a month, two guys came with the new doors and installed them. It was January 3rd, soon after the New Year’s Day. Since school had not started yet, the kids were home. My dancing princess’ body twitched every time they made explosive noises. My dragon boy was so excited and restless for the whole day.

It took them almost all day. But it wasn’t over. They told me the front door lock had a broken part and that some parts of the screen door came in a wrong color. They said they would replace them once new parts arrived and they left. I said to myself, “Well, I shouldn’t be surprised to have some minor trouble,” and excitedly and curiously tried the new doors. What shocked me was the big banging noise the front screen door made when it shut itself automatically. I thought my heart would jump out every time it shut.

A week later, when the installer was back, we asked him to make it less noisy. It was better but still we couldn’t get rid of the banging noise. I reluctantly said to myself, “Well, at least the noise won’t make my heart jump out.” Then I found out the lock that had supposedly been fixed did not work. The installation was finally done the next day when he came back to fix it again.

“Whew, finally.” But it was too soon to be relieved. We had a double lock system installed and it turned out one of the two locks had to be manually unlocked. Opening the door from outside using the key does not unlock the lock, which means if we go out of the door again and shut it carelessly we cannot go back in... (_ _ ;) We get locked out by the double lock system we got for a security reason!! Oh yes, each of us got locked out already. This is just like putting a cart in front of the horse. I just cannot help laughing. After all we now have a new source of headache, don’t we? (^_^;)
