How Good Is He at Shooting?

Year 2009 was again a year of full of outings and new experiences for us; two camping trips, two air shows, natural museums, science museums, art galleries, movies, ballet watching, baseball watching, beaches, mountains, billiard, stakeboarding, ice skating, music concert, etc. I myself get amazed how many things we had to do. Moreover, what concluded the year was, to believe it or not, a clay shooting. Casey had done several times before but for dragon it was of course the very first time in his life.

“If we are going to do it, we will do it properly.” This was Casey’s intention and he called several places to look for a shooting range that provides lessons. Finally he made an appointment for a lesson on Dec. 31, on the condition that it would be cancelled if it rained. For five days before the day, dragon was again counting the days just like before Christmas. Finally the day came. The sky was gray but there was no sign of rain. We kept driving toward the mountain for about 40 minutes and there it was, the shooting range. We could easily read from his face how excited dragon was.

The instructor was a very nice gentleman and mindful of princess in wheelchair. Slopes and steps made it hard to go near them and watch the brave figures of the two. But at least I was able to see a clay dish make its way across the sky and get shot.

Dragon had already trained himself with toy guns in battle plays. As expected, he did pretty well. The success rate was even higher than that of his daddy!! After the one-hour intensive lesson, he looked so satisfied. He brought home a couple of shot shells that he had shot for the first time. Every few minutes he held them in his hands and was overjoyed, saying, “I cannot believe that I shot a real gun!”

It looks like in 2010 clay shooting will be added to Kung Fu and skateboarding as his favorite activities. It is a little expensive hobby, but “If you really like something, you will be good at it.” (I hope.) Anyway, when I think about his future profession, I can only come up with a job using his body....(^_^;)
